Enjoying Jazz

I don't remember exactly when I listened to Jazz. I've probably listened to it before without giving the same importance that I already gave to Rock music. As I studied drums, my teacher introduced me to different styles, which was very important to understand the dimension of the music. Jazz was one of them and I was enchanted with the richness of expression, either by the use of the technique in the instrument or by creative freedom.
I share a taste for Jazz with few friends. It's not an easy-to-assimilate genre and the reason for this I found out years later in a class with Bob Wyatt. He explained about how "our brain seeks to organize chaos". This means that in our nature there is the mechanism for us to process and understand nature, providing conditions that ensure life. The interesting thing is how the organization also occurs in artistic appreciations.
Do you know those paintings that apparently don't make sense? Blurs, some strokes, fused geometric shapes...? At first glance, some people may feel something. Others will think that the artist did something random. However, a pinch of knowledge about the time (real or inspired), another about the technique used and a little more about the artist and...voilà! The magic happens. It's no different with Jazz.
If I may have a suggestion, start with songs like "I fall in love too easily" (Chet Baker) and "Night and day" (Ella Fitzgerald). Then go to instrumental tunes. "Nefertiti" (Miles Davis) and "Witch Hunt" (Wayne Shorter) are good to start getting to know the music without lyrics. Read about the artists and these songs.
Jazz has a variety of strands developed over the years. Throughout its history it shows never limiting himself, but rather expanding his horizons. Explores forms of improvisation, diverse sounds and mergers with other styles. It is the art of infinite creativity and freedom.
For me, it is a philosophy with which I develop and maintain flexibility, innovation, collaboration and respect.
If you want to know the style, count on me.
I wish you all the best and see you next time!
